The Video Diaries: Closet Relics – Part One

I love me a good closet purge. (And I blogged about one here.)

Despite being somewhat of  a self-professed pack rat, I do see the virtue in not having piles of indistinguishable articles of clothing cluttering up one’s sartorial domain (i.e. Is that a pair of pajama pants or a caftan hanging off the top shelf?)

That said, there are things in my closet that I will never, EVER part with. No matter what. I’ve taken to calling them relics because everything featured in this series is 10 years old – if not older.

Here is Part One of Relics I’ll Never Throw Out of My Closet:

Okay, so now you know a few of the things I will always keep, but I’d like to know the things that you are quick to toss when cleaning out your own closet: What, in your opinion, must go?

  1. Hmmmmm, I am not a saver, Courtney. I clean out my closet once a year and if I haven't worn something in a year it goes to Goodwill. Of course you realize I do this so I have a really good excuse to shop and buy more!

As always, you're as cute as a bug! xxo

    1. Awww, Susie, thanks! :-) I SO need to be more like you. Maybe this quality of yours -- along with having super ageless skin! -- will rub off on me? I can only hope.

You see, I've been burned before: I reluctantly threw something away that I swore I wouldn't wear ever again...only to go looking for it mere months after giving it to Goodwill. :-(

But, save more my "relics," I be better off tossing most of this stuff!

Have a great weekend, Susie...and thank you for commenting!

  2. I have a pair of old Chucks that I got embroidered with my wedding date! And my husband got his to say his dog's name. Romance, ah!
    Lovely to see/hear you!

    1. Okay, Tamara. You officially have the coolest pair of Chucks EVER. That is beyond cool. The item I had embroidered for my wedding -- and wore as my "something blue" -- was a pair of thing underwear which I had embroidered with The Hub's blue and silver Detroit Lions football helmet as well as his number. But I vote your Chucks as a far more practical item. lol

Thank you so very much for commenting, and have a great weekend!

  3. I recently cleaned out all my clothes, after having to downsize into a tiny apt. Now I really needed those tiny clothes as I a lost a ton of weight. Though, I had buy a new wardrobe and happily donated old clothes. now, my hubby is a hoarder, he denies it but he is...which drives me mad. often things of his "go missing" just to clear out space.

I need to try vlogging..you are too cute, I think I would like a moron, LOL

    1. Wow, Karen! CONGRATS!!! That is wonderful. (I'm proud of you, and I don't even know you!) That. Is. Phenomenal.

I think it is in men's DNA -- they all have some kind of genetic aversion to throwing things away...although, I am currently in no position to talk smack, as I waled into our bedroom the other day, and The Hubs was in his walk-in closet -- we each have our own, thank God -- and was going to town throwing a ton of crap away!!! I was like, "Damnit! I should be doing that..." lol

Try vlogging!! I know that's the term -- but for some reason the word "vlog" just creeps me out. Don't ask me why. I am strange.

Thank you for your compliment, really, I appreciate it. <3

    1. Hi, Rachel! Happy Saturday!

Yes, I remember the post you did not too long ago about giving things away. I wish I had read it before I purged my closet because, truthfully, it may have prompted me to let go of more. (Heaven knows I needed to...)

Thanks for stopping by, my fellow "Michigan SITS-ta"!!

  5. Don't even get me started on the relics in my closet! So is this an ongoing video series now?

    1. Closet relics are The Best! And it sounds like you have a lot of them! I don't, actually. Only a handful of pieces in my closet have true staying power, which is the premise of this 3-part series...

Yay for last night's win! GO HEAT! One step closer...

  6. I have got to clear out my closet. I have a ton of stuff I'll never wear again because they were for work, and I'm retired and got fat! But my huge list of To-Do's goes behind working on my writing, which is a never-ending slog with no end in sight -- and no payoff either.

    1. Lexa, I am laughing SO Hard over here -- partly out of empathy because when you describe writing as a "never-ending slog with no end in sight -- and no payoff either," well, I get you.

It's a good thing we love it, huh?

Seriously, Lexa, I think I busted a rib.

Thank you, as always, for commenting.

  7. YAAAY!!!! I finally got the video to work this time! Love hearing your voice! I need to get out of my comfort zone and start vlogging.

Hmm...I recently cleaned out my closet and it was old stuff I just knew I wouldn't wear again.

I had a black pair of chucks and loved them to death but I have no clue what happen to them and also a pair of Jordans I had- I may have a thief in my household. LOL! Or I'm just losing my mind and forgot that I had given them away.

    1. Hi, Louida! Yeah...I've been afflicted by the later...tonight: I swear, a few hours ago-- right before I put the kids to bed, I got an inkling to search for a pear of pea green leather pumps I bought while in Miami for work back in 2005. After turning the house upside down, I very reluctantly came to terms with the fact that I must have given them away. (Sniffle, sniffle.)

Yes, do try recording a video! (I'm sorry I can't say -- or apparently, type -- the word "vlog." I don't know why, but I don't like that word. You know how some words gross people out? Yeah, well, the word VLOG does that to me.

But it's fun, though! After spending several years in front of the camera -- and then taking a hiatus for mommyhood, I forgot how much fun it is!

Enjoy your weekend, and thank you for commenting!

  8. I gave away my first and favorite pair of Converse to my sister. Sad day. She loves them so much, I can't ask for them back...Lol. BUT, I just bought the most beautiful pair of Converse for summer, called "Beach Glass." In love, I tell you. In. Love. I'll happily be hopping on a plane, rocking those puppies next week.

    1. Okay, I am seriously going to look up these "Beach Glass" kicks you speak of because I need to see them...

And there is a place for you in heaven for giving away your beloved pair of Chucks...you do know that, right?

That's right! Blog U! (Shaking my head over here.) If I didn't like you so much -- and know that you deserve to get away -- I'd be downright jealous. Order some room service for me, will ya?

  9. Honestly, I need to dump my closet and start over. But I need to get closer to my weight loss goal to even consider it! I love chandelier earrings! Thanks for linking up with Countdown in Style.

    1. Aren't chandelier earrings the best? I'm holding fast to the belief that mine will see the light of day again...

And you WILL get to the point where a complete and total closet purge is not only desired, but necessary. I said it before, and I'll say it again: You are going to look HOT at that September wedding...and I'll want to hear all about it!

      Thank you for commenting.

    1. Ah, nice system you've got there, Myrabev. I used to treat my parents' home as my fall-back walk-in closet...but then I got married, and my parents got a divorce, so that was the end of that.

      Oh well.

I'm just thanking my lucky stars that our home has tons of closet space! lol

      Thank you for commenting. :-)

  11. I loved seeing and hearing you in this post Courtney!

I love my pashmina scarves, although I don't wear them nearly as much as I should/would like to.

    Awesome post. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! I feel the same way: After I busted out my beige pashmina to wear to brunch on Mother's Day, I was like, "Where have you been all my life?!"

I've seriously got to put them back in regular rotation; they're so very versatile!

Thank you for your kind words, and thank you for commenting.

  12. How nice of you to share this with us! I loved the video and I think you are such a beautiful woman. I think I've only been by here before like once or twice, but I'm not sure that I ever told you that. :) This is completely opposite of me for sure. I part ways with so many things so easily that it's crazy! :)

    1. I need to be more like you, Brittnei. I really do. As I commented above in response to another reader, I've been burned before -- aka, gave something away that I thought I'd never wear again...only to find that I DID indeed want to wear it again...but I had given it away! Still, that is simply no excuse -- or justification -- for me to become a pack-rat...

Thank you so, SO much for not only visiting, but sharing your comments and good energy with this blog. I'm SO glad you did.
