The Video Diaries: Closet Relics – Part Three

So here we are.

The end of Closet Relics Road.

This is the third -- and final -- installment in this series in which I regale you lovely readers on the things that are as old as dirt but still have tremendous staying power. (You can find the first video here, and the second here.)

In the following video, I reveal my absolute favorite mainstays, which may very well surprise you...

This post is also linked up to #FashionFriday, which is co-hosted by Audrey McClellan of Mom Generations. I've been reading Audrey's blog for years now, and first became aware of her by way of Chicken Soup for the Soul when Audrey interviewed me for Zulily.com in celebration of a Chicken Soup for the Soul promotion they were running back in 2011...

What is the one thing in your closet that you absolutely, positively cannot live without?

  1. You mom rocks! That is so awesome she made pants for you baby with you fav sweaters! Courtney, honey I think we need to have an intervention with you and those uggs. I know you love them but it's time to let them go. I know of what I speak. I had a jean purse for about 20 years that I loved and it showed! It was tattered and worn. I, like you, was patching it up. I knew it had more life in it but alas my mom and bff step in a set me straight. I eventually let it go. Yes I was sad for a bit. Till I found a new purse or two! I love that you have several color flip flops! You could dress them up with some bling too by using a clip on earring or brooch!

    1. Susie, you are right. But, I can't let them go! I know you are right, though! Want proof: Even I only wear those Uggs when I'm walking the kids around the neighborhood. It's like, in my mind, I know they are toast. I have three other perfectly new pair. THREE! Sigh. Give me a moment,I'm trying to get it together over here, I promise...

Oh, and guess what? Right-- and I do mean RIGHT -- after I shot this, I bought another pair of Havaianas! My first in over three years! Yellow. They will be the proverbial pop of color some of my outfits desperately need...

Thank you so much for your support and mild intervention through your denim purse story!

      I needed that...

    2. If you can't let them go then perhaps you should just turn them into peep toe uggs?!

    3. Why, that's a pretty good idea! I could start a new trend! lol

But, then, I wouldn't be able to walk the babies in the wintertime with them -- I'd get frost bite. Talk about suffering for fashion...lol

  2. Oh those poor boots. Do they make something you could put over the toe to help make it stronger? I'm a huge flip flop fan too since I really prefer to be barefoot. I'll have to check them out cause I really abuse mine and I'm lucky if that last one summer.

    1. Hi, Jennifer! Like a toe patch or something? And guess how desperate (or addicted to these boots) I am? If such a thing existed, I'd probably run out and buy it...

DO look into a pair (or 5) of Havaianas. You will quickly see that they are the gift that keeps on giving, summer after summer. I just bought a new pair in yellow, right after I shot this video. I'm guessing I'll have them until my first born graduates college. lol

      Thank you for commenting!

  3. I LOVE this series! We all have our 'stuff' we can't part with and it's so fun to see what yours are. It's very telling I think. Like a story. A peek inside a person's life and heart, like, your Chandelier earrings tell me you are confident and exotic. The Uugs that your practical and value comfort. The flip-flops that you are a bargain shopper and a mother on the go! But what's this about letting changing your hairstyle? Tell me more....ps: I voted for you!

    1. Hi, Cheryl! Ding, ding, ding!

You've got me figured out as well as that therapist I used to go to many moons ago. (Whoops. Did I just say that? lol) Seriously, though, you've basically nailed it.

Me likely comfort. That's for sure...

Thank you SO MUCH for the vote!!! <3

And, sigh. Alas, about my hair. It's true. Did you read the curly post a few days before this one? It explains everything. While my son is taking swim class, I really have no other choice...

  4. It is great to see that you keep sewing up your Ugg boots Courtney and still use them. Those boots can be expensive buying them over and over again.

    1. But that's just it! I have TWO brand new pair that I wear...but I love these the most! They didn't pop the holes until a few years ago, so I did get my money's worth out of them...

Oh, and this pair was my least expensive pair...

I LOVE my first pair, though! #sentimentality

  5. oh my gosh the cashmere baby pants!!! I see a big future for you in recycled cashmere baby wear! I'd buy it. I am still wanting some chandelier earrings from one of your older posts. Love the flip flops. Cheers!

    1. Hey, Susan. Thanks! Although I can't lay claim to those cutesy cashmere baby pants: I cannot sew worth a damn, and therefore am at my mom's mercy as to when she feels like making them. :-/

Yes, do get a pair of "chandys" as I call them. Mark my words: They will make a comeback.

And, well, those Havaianas are worth their weight in gold. :-)
