So if you follow The Brown Girl with Long Hair blog on Facebook, you may recall a recent post in which Scott and I attended Detroit Lions Tailgate Party at the Birmingham Country Club, which benefited HAVEN, a center for domestic violence treatment and prevention. And I wore the perfect sheath dress; this blue 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target dress that I found on eBay for $19.99 NWT (New Without Tags):
But few people know the story behind this dress...
The Background
So I buy this dress on eBay -- in a size small -- and the shipping was so fast that it seemingly arrived hours later. I take it out of the bag and wait for it...wait for it...much to my dismay, the seller messed up and sent me a size XS.
Ugh.
I try it on anyway.
My hope is that the dress runs big and that I can keep it so as to avoid repackaging the sucker and schlepping off to the post office to return it. You know, because I'm kind of a hermit, and in the rare instance that I do leave the house, I sure as heck would like to go to a more exciting place than the post office.
The dress fits, yes -- it's a roomy XS! -- but I know a size small would fit my body better.
I e-mail the seller, and explain that he made mistake.
His reply?
"Keep the XS," he writes. "Sorry for the error. I'll send you the small you ordered. Keep both; give the XS to a friend."
My first thought: This seller deserves stellar feedback.
My second thought: I'm giving away the XS on the blog.
So, again, here's the catch: The dress I'm giving away is a size XS.*

The Fine Print
Now, I get that the fact that this dress is an XS makes this dress a no-go for many.
However, I would like to remind you that with the holidays coming up, this dress would make an excellent gift for those XS gals in your life -- especially if she has a penchant for the Detroit Lions Honolulu blue (wink, wink).
Here are some additional pics of the dress:

This is such a cute dress. #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteThanks, Victoria! The fact that it is easy to wear, easy to put on and take off, and, of course, washable, made this a no-brainer purchase...
DeleteHave an awesome weekend, and thank you for your comment!

Very cute dress and I wish I COULD fit an XS. Oh well. Cute hair. #productreviewparty
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diatta! You are looking at dirty hair. Mine behaves so much better when it *needs* to be washed...and although I had wished to give myself one of my signature blowouts prior to the event, I just didn't have the time. I ended up washing it that night!
DeleteThanks, again, for commenting.

And another thing: I'm thinking you are already an XS! If you're not, you are most certainly NOT far off! Lookin' good, girl!
DeleteThat was sweet of him to let you keep the first dress. Most sellers definitely asked for their product to be shipped back.
ReplyDeleteRight??? I know, K. Elizabeth. I've encountered my fair share of the latter type of sellers on eBay because I buy SO much off the Web site. It's nice to buy from a good egg.
DeleteThanks so much for commenting! :-)
Darn it the dress is too small for me. But you look so cute in it Courtney. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Louida! Are you sure you don't know anyone who can fit into an XS? It's a "roomy" XS -- you know, as far as XSs go! lol
DeleteThank you, again, for commenting!

Happy Friday! That dress looks great on you. Unfortunately I don't know anyone a size xs. It's really cute though. #productreviewparty
ReplyDeleteHi, Stacie! That makes two of us: I don't know of anyone, either -- or at least someone really close to me. I thought about saving it for my daughter, but who the heck knows? She may not even like dresses...or the color blue, so here we are...
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by, and have a fantastic weekend!

The dress looks great on you! I entered the giveaway as I think it would also look great on my mom. (Just that she seems about the same size and looks good in blue). #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteHi, Sam! You are such a thoughtful daughter! (It is my hope that may baby daughter Kennedy would do the same for me someday.) I just think that sort of mother-daughter kindness is "the bee's knees," as they say...
DeleteHave a fantastic weekend (you and your mom!)) and thank you so much for entering and commenting.

Hi Courtney -
ReplyDeleteProof positive that kindness makes the world go around! Love how you are paying it forward. And love the dress on you - so beautiful - you and the dress!
BTW - had a lot of fun at the Homecoming game last night handing out the "Intercept Breast Cancer" flyers with Scott's picture. It ended up being the perfect PSA!
Hugs, Holly
Oh, Holly, thank you! It's my hope that whomever wins this dress will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine...
DeleteThat is awesome about the game!! I was wondering about that last week and wondered if the game had already taken place. I'm going to share your comment with Scott right now...
Have an awesome weekend! :-)
